TikTok vs. Reels isn’t a super new battle, but it is something that should be top of mind if you’re present on social media! It’s also an important time for the two as Reels has finally had enough time to refine and fine-tune their interface and tools to fully compete with TikTok.
If you want to know which one would work best for you and your business, keep reading!
Video Length:
TikTok allows up to 3 minute videos for some users, but all users have access to creating 1 minute videos. As of today, Reels only allows videos up to 30 seconds.
Audio:
TikTok is superior in this regard as users are constantly creating new sounds that go viral for others to use. It’s not to say that Reels doesn’t have an extensive library of sounds, but there is less creativity and more copyright restrictions present.
Video Editing:
Many of the viral TikTok trends originate from the use of a specific effect or filter, and they’ve also created an interface that allows users to be very in control of the video’s outcome. Reels is similar, however, the filters available are only those you can also find in Instagram Stories – and you can only use one filter per video.
Analytics:
TikTok offers in depth insight into your audience, making it easy to produce content that your community likes to see. As of today, Reels does not offer any segmented or additional audience insight aside from ordinary analytics on Instagram.
Paid Advertising:
If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you’ve seen the rise of both advertisements as well as sponsored content. The plus is that these advertisements are personalized to your For You Page. On the other hand, Reels doesn’t feature advertisements which can be a big draw for users.
Which is best for you?
As of now, TikTok is still king, so if you’re only going to choose one – we suggest them. However, there’s no downside to being present on both. You can save and repurpose your TikTok content to share on Reels, which could be a good way to grow your Instagram following!
